SPACE Tour
By: Monica Jean

We rode in on the T and walked to the House of Blues. We ended up waiting on top of the Mass Pike and the line was pretty long. It stretched all the way over the Mass Pike and turned a corner of the street. That probably doesn’t mean anything to you, but it was a long line, let’s just say that. We got bored so we made you guys a boring video about waiting in line. And we waited for quite a bit. At least an hour. I heard two policemen talking about the line and how long it was and how surprised they were at the amount of fans that showed up.

They let us in the House of Blues and the guy who checked our coats was eating Red Vines and there was a jar that said “Tipping is Totally Awesome”. And then we walked through the doors inside.

It was wicked loud. Like so loud I could feel it in my chest, in my heart. In a good way. It was incredible. We all had floor seats so we walked down and it was reeealllyyy packed. But we could still see the stage fine. The first thing we saw was the drum set that had the STARKID logo on it.

Then after a few minutes, Charlene Kaye came onstage.

She was the opening and she was flawless. All of her songs were amazing her voice was incredible and her outfit was gorgeous. She also sang this song and you can see she had the disco ball going and everything!

She joked and said “Hello, Boston: home of baked beans, the Red Sox, and Joe Walker.” It was cool that she talked to us a bit too. She said “What are you all doing in my house? House of Blues, that is.” She talked about how we were the biggest crowd (2,500 all packed into the House of Blues) and how great and surreal it was for her, being used to crowds of fifty in bars. She took a picture of us and tweeted it!!!

And when Charlene was singing “Dress and Tie” Darren just skips out on stage and sings with her and everyone in the audience literally lost it. It got so loud and so crazy. I mean, can you blame them? It was the first time anyone had seen Darren all night. Darren just said “Hey Boston” in this sweet voice.

And then Darren and Charlene finished and Darren skipped off stage and Charlene continued.

Then about forty minutes later, the actual Starkid show started. They had a brief intro where they talked a bit and then they all came on with space helmets on. They sang “I Wanna Be” and it was so great.

Then throughout the show they sang:
Granger Danger and Joey and Lauren had a really adorable skit with “stool talk” and it was the best.
Status Quo and the guys did a really great rendition of it. It was different but really good.
Harry Freakin’ Potter  was perfect. Everyone was in it and they did such a good job.
Get Back Up was awesome. Lauren was so great.
Different As Can Be was sung by Joe Walker and Brian Holden because Brian Rosenthal wasn’t able to come on tour. But they did a good job. You don’t see it in this video because this was the 2pm show, but at my show Joe said something like “What bone could possibly have to pick with me?” and Brian said “A femur!”
Gettin’ Along  was great with Joe and Dylan. They did a bit of the dance too :]
Boy Toy was something I didn’t expect them to sing at all, so I was really happy they did. Lauren introduced it as a song “about believing in yourself”. All of the guys’ dancing (especially Darren) in the background was priceless. Joey embraced his inner Rick Richter and danced shirtless with a stick-on mustache. You can see a bit of it in the video. There were bubbles and confetti and the disco ball was going. It was so great.
Coolest Girl was sung by Meredith and she did an amazing job. Probably even better than Bonnie. This video is the one from Toronto, there isn’t one from Boston yet.
No Way was really good too! The girls did a fantastic job! We’re usually used to the guys singing it but the girls really did well.
To Have a Home  and Not Alone were Darren’s two, main, solos. He was flawless obviously. It was just really, really great to see him back with the Starkids. And you guys don’t even understand. You are always hearing some modified version of his voice, through Youtube and speakers or pre-recorded. But there is nothing like his voice live. It’s just so amazing. He was mesmerizing.
Everyone ended the show with their names and when they got to Darren he said “I’m Kurt’s boyfriend on Glee”. Yes you are Darren, yes you are.
They closed with Beauty, which was a great song to close with.

They also did Days of Summer and Back to Hogwarts at the 2pm show. And they did it as an encore last night too I think, but I left before that.

They weren’t able to do any signings or anything, I guess it was really crazy and the police were really nervous about it so they said no.
It was just so great to see everyone all together, with Darren. It just made it feel like a real Starkid show with everyone together. It was really sweet of Darren to come all the way out to Boston to perform with them. This was his first day on the SPACE tour and he knew everything perfectly, the set list, the songs, the dances, everything! And Darren just fit back into the group perfectly. It was like he was never gone, you know? He’s still just as much a part of the group as everybody else even though he is more well-known now.
And they all just seemed so happy to be with each other and singing and goofing around. But the best part was to see how far they’ve come from Michigan and to see that they’re all still the crazy Starkids we love.
Here are some blurry pictures that I took :]
